RandomThoughtsWhy do some people insist that science and God are mutually exclusive?I could never picture God as a man with a white beard and volition (nor indeed as anything that could be "pictured" at all). How could timeless, ubiquitous, omnipotent omniscence want anything? I do know that we can see visible patterns forming in a sand dune and infer something about the invisible processes of the wind. And that a love-struck person finds themselves irresistably driven to learn the minutest detail about the beloved and to stare at and memorize every aspect of the beloved's face, body, movements, sounds, and behavior. Love and the desire for knowledge are inextricably linked. The drive to apprehend and understand the processes behind the observable universe is nothing less than an expression of all-consuming love for the matter and energy that comprise the universe. Isn't that a more flattering concept of God than that of an old guy on a cloud throwing lightening bolts down at your own personal enemies? |
